Which melodies does a landscape possess? In which shades are our memories painted? Which sensory nuances can take us back to childhood?

Within the soul of every person is an ethnic memory that has accumulated over the generations and contains cues that can trigger memories of past experiences and emotions. With the help of the musicality and lyricism of the landscape I attempt to convey these feelings, thoughts, memories and sometimes forebodings. Through the shrill, piercing moods of the landscape—inspired by changes of season, the instant state of nature and its mild sadness and nostalgic pensiveness—I find it easiest to manifest myself.

In many of my paintings images are imbued with a symbolic sound. There is a feeling of timelessness born from landscapes of middle and northern Russia with the domes of old churches, bends of rivers and discreetly coppiced timbers that, with their leisure and majesty, resemble a prayer ritual.

The works in this exhibition aim to unite spirituality with feelings, reflections and a sense of belonging to Russia.

Here, silence and leisure assist the work.

Here, within the closeness of nature and its cyclical life filled with truth there are simple, whole and open people and the beauty of their humble deeds.

Here, is the richness of textures and states.

Here, closeness to the earth reveals our essence; the eternal predestination of each individual person and the entire human race to the sky, or spiritual principles of life.

And here—in the region where I was born—the predominance of a reserved, silvery palette gives rise to a sense of northern coldness and an air of transparency.
